25 to 1 – Bet 2 (24 to go) – Cardiff vs Bristol City

In an ideal world, we would like to bring you a bet for our ‘25 to 1’ section that is different to the ‘Bankers’ from our weekly Pundits’ Picks. However, after a break last week due to a lack of conviction on any particular bet, we have found it equally difficult this weekend to find you a wide variety of bets across the sporting calendar. Without any Six Nations, NFL, tennis, golf or international cricket of interest or value this weekend, we are left with just the FA Cup, a solitary Premier League game and some lower league football to get our teeth into. Nevertheless, encouragingly (we hope), two of us arrived separately at the same ‘banker’ and we have decided therefore to select this as the second bet of our ’25 to 1’.

As THTP notes in his Picks, it is Wales vs. England on Saturday afternoon as Cardiff’s nearest English rivals cross the Severn bridge and take on the Championship table toppers. Cardiff have been unbelievably consistent over the years, in a league that seems to be getting harder and harder…and they’ll be hoping that they can finally shake their ‘run in’ hoodoo and join their Welsh neighbours in the Prem next season.

Cardiff’s comfortable position at top the table has been built on their very strong home form, where they’ve won 12 of their 14 matches (perhaps worryingly, the only teams to take points from the Cardiff City Stadium are Bristol City’s fellow strugglers Ipswich and Peterborough). Although goals have slightly dried up for the Bluebirds over the last few games, Bristol are still conceding plenty of chances, and while Bristol have been in good form at home more recently, their away form has been poor, without an away point since before Christmas.

A quirk of the fixture list means that Cardiff have played just one league game at home so far in 2013 so they’ll be looking forward to playing in front of their vocal home crowd again, and with Frazier Campbell increasingly adding match fitness starting to link up with the ever-effective Craig Bellamy, we think Cardiff should have enough to win this one.

£40.75 – Cardiff WIN @ 1.57
